Mappets

2026

Planning a trip by real cost, not just by time

Android mobility app that calculates routes and tells you what they cost, in euros or in effort, depending on how you travel.

A complete product built with ATDD practices for the software engineering course.

Stack

  • Kotlin
  • Jetpack Compose
  • Hilt
  • Firebase
  • Mapbox

The problem

Maps give you the fastest route. They rarely tell you what that trip will cost or how far you will walk, and those two things are what decide whether you drive, cycle or go on foot.

What it does

  • Calculates routes between two points for combustion car, electric car, bicycle and walking.
  • Optimises for time, for distance or for cost.
  • Estimates the cost in euros for vehicles and the calories for cycling and walking.
  • Saves favourite places, vehicles and routes between sessions.

How it is built

Clean architecture over MVVM, with repositories isolating the data and the strategy pattern for the different cost calculations, which is the part that changes most.

Coroutines and flows for everything asynchronous, Hilt for dependency injection and Firebase for authentication and persistence. Energy prices and geocoding come from external APIs.
